The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Sac-Joaquin Section celebrated its annual A. Dale Lacky Scholar-Athlete Awards breakfast on Tuesday in Elk Grove, California, recognizing exceptional student-athletes for their athletic and academic accomplishments. This year, eight students received $2,000 scholarships, with the award named after former Section and State CIF President A. Dale Lacky. Additionally, the Clarke Coover Award, named for a former Section Commissioner, was awarded to Cooper Barr from Placer High School and Haley Smith from Liberty Ranch High School, each receiving $3,000. In total, 48 student-athletes were honored, and the event also recognized three male and three female coaches with 'model coach' awards. Students shared insights into their success, emphasizing hard work, dedication, and effective time management as key factors in balancing academics and athletics.
