On April 16, Wendy Hensel, President of the University of Hawaiʻi, presented a comprehensive strategy to the UH Board of Regents aimed at improving alignment across its 10 campuses. Hensel identified alignment as a crucial governance issue, asserting that strategic priorities should directly influence resource allocation, campus evaluations, and leadership reviews. She highlighted common challenges in multi-campus systems, where individual campuses often operate independently, leading to underperformance despite strong individual efforts. To address these issues, the university will implement a structured approach that includes annual strategic action plans linked to campus priorities, a transparent multi-year budgeting process, performance-based funding incentives, and standardized performance metrics for accountability. Hensel emphasized that this alignment is an ongoing effort, essential for executing the strategic plan effectively and ultimately benefiting students and the state.
