The Delhi High Court has dismissed the Delhi Police's appeal against the bail granted to Ishrat Jahan, a former Congress councillor, in the conspiracy case related to the 2020 Northeast Delhi riots. Jahan, who was the first individual to be granted bail in this case, had spent two years in jail before being released in March 2022. The court, consisting of Justices Navin Chawla and Ravinder Dudeja, noted that there were no allegations of her violating bail conditions since her release. Initially, Jahan was granted bail under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) with restrictions on her travel outside Delhi. However, in 2024, the trial court modified her bail conditions, allowing her to travel anywhere in India without prior court permission. The Delhi Police had argued that the trial court overlooked witness statements that implicated Jahan in the conspiracy and terror financing, but the High Court found no grounds to interfere with the trial court's decision.
