In a tragic incident on Saturday morning, five people lost their lives when an SUV collided with a trailer on the Gorakhpur-Varanasi four-lane highway near Kusumha Basharatpur in Mau district, Uttar Pradesh. The victims were returning home to Gorakhpur after attending a wedding in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Vinay Srivastava (60), his wife Archana (58), their son Kritarth (27), and two drivers, Purushottam (47) and Nitish (46), were traveling in the SUV when the driver fell asleep. This caused the vehicle to crash into a divider and subsequently veer into the opposite lane, resulting in a devastating collision with a trailer. The impact was so severe that it left the SUV's front section completely mangled, trapping the occupants inside. It took emergency responders two and a half hours to extricate the bodies, which were later sent to the District Hospital in Mau for post-mortem examinations. Authorities have informed the families of the victims, and traffic on the highway has been restored.
