The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee has officially decided to support the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by C Joseph Vijay, in forming the government in Tamil Nadu. Girish Chodankar, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge for the state, stated that the people of Tamil Nadu have expressed a clear desire for a secular and progressive government. He emphasized that the Congress party, as a founding political entity for such values, is committed to respecting this mandate. However, the support is conditional upon the TVK's commitment to exclude any communal forces from the alliance. Chodankar also highlighted the alliance's goal to revive the ideals of Kamaraj and promote social justice as envisioned by leaders like Periyar and B R Ambedkar. Additionally, S Rajesh Kumar has been elected as the Leader of the Congress Legislative Party in Tamil Nadu, marking a significant organizational move within the party.
