Amit Dewan, the chief financial officer of Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN), has been dismissed following allegations of misusing his position to facilitate fraudulent banking operations. The Haryana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested him on March 18, 2023, amid an investigation into discrepancies involving ₹50 crore in funds from Haryana Power Generation Corporation Ltd (HPGCL). The ACB's findings indicated that Dewan established links with accused bank officials to divert funds into sham entities. His actions were deemed prejudicial to the interests of HPGCL, prompting UHBVN to bypass a departmental inquiry in favor of immediate dismissal. The investigation has now been transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to avoid compromising ongoing inquiries. Dewan's conduct reportedly tarnished the reputation of both the state government and the power utilities. Evidence collected during the investigation includes details of unauthorized transactions and illegal kickbacks totaling ₹50 lakh received by Dewan as part of a broader criminal conspiracy.
