The Delhi High Court has raised concerns regarding the absence of personal security officers (PSOs) for judicial officers in Delhi, questioning why such arrangements are not made when other states like Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, and Gujarat provide them. Justice Manoj Jain criticized the Delhi Police for their stance that security is only offered based on threat perception, suggesting that this approach undermines the independence of the judiciary. He emphasized that security should be a standard provision rather than a charity, especially in a city with high crime rates. The court has directed a meeting among senior officials from the Delhi government, the Union Home Ministry, and the Delhi Police to discuss this issue and has called for budgetary allocations to ensure safety for over 700 judicial officers in the capital. The matter is scheduled for further hearing in May.
