The Delhi Police have flagged over 250 local sports betting and gambling apps to various platforms due to concerns over scams and illegal activities. This initiative coincides with the announcement of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, which will come into effect on May 1. This new legislation allows designated cyber cell officers to promptly investigate online gaming offences. A senior police officer indicated that since drafting the rules in October, they have compiled a list of illegal apps, most of which are locally developed. Notably, in December 2025, police arrested two individuals behind a cricket betting app called “Project Plus 2025,” which facilitated bets on international matches from a flat in Vikaspuri. Additionally, four suspects were apprehended last month for running an online betting racket linked to Dubai from Paschim Vihar. The police are actively working with platforms like the Play Store and social media to prevent the promotion of these illegal apps and websites.
