On Thursday, the Delhi High Court criticized the Delhi Police regarding the alleged unlawful detention of 10 activists last month. A bench comprising Justices Navin Chawla and Ravinder Dudeja indicated a potential referral to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) if the police cannot justify their actions. The court noted serious allegations of torture made by the activists and emphasized the necessity of following due process, regardless of the severity of the allegations. The police were instructed to produce records, including CCTV footage, to demonstrate that the detention was lawful. The activists, who were reportedly detained on March 12 and March 13, claimed they were subjected to torture during their detention. The police, however, maintained that the activists were called for lawful questioning related to a case of wrongful confinement involving a woman. The court's next hearing is set for May 19, where it will assess the police's compliance with its directives.
