Gujarat is preparing for a particularly hot May, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of an increase in heatwave days and prolonged heat spells. According to IMD's long-range forecast, maximum temperatures across Gujarat will be above normal, especially in Saurashtra and Kutch, while minimum temperatures will remain significantly higher in peninsular Saurashtra and south Gujarat. The combination of elevated daytime and nighttime temperatures is likely to intensify heat stress for residents. In contrast, April saw normal to below-normal maximum temperatures for most of the country, attributed to seven Western Disturbances affecting weather patterns. The IMD also projects above-normal rainfall for most of Gujarat in May, with the southwest monsoon expected to reach the Andaman and Nicobar Islands around May 14-16.
