In a recent meeting, Haryana's Environment and Forest Minister Rao Narbir Singh reviewed the enforcement of environmental norms in Gurugram to combat pollution and improve waste management. He directed officials to inspect nearly 400 construction sites that are not registered on the dust portal, with a focus on reducing dust pollution through monitoring and barricading. The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) reported that 29 ambient air quality monitoring stations are currently operational, with plans for 23 more in the National Capital Region (NCR). Additionally, six sewage treatment plants (STPs) with a combined capacity of 133 million liters per day (MLD) are under construction, expected to be completed by March 2027. The government has set a target to reduce Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) levels in drains to below 10 mg/L by December 31, 2027. Furthermore, Singh highlighted the enforcement against single-use plastic, with 6,863 challans issued and fines totaling ₹60.86 lakh (roughly $73,000 USD) imposed since December 2025. The minister also addressed legacy waste management at the Bandhwari landfill and urged for compliance with environmental standards.
