In light of forecasts from the India Meteorological Department predicting a severe heatwave and below-normal rainfall, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed state authorities to maintain high alert status. During a review meeting, he emphasized the importance of ensuring uninterrupted drinking water supply and effective irrigation management. Special attention will be given to 18 drought-prone districts, with control rooms established to facilitate real-time updates to the Chief Minister's Office and other key officials. The chief minister instructed officials to complete de-silting of canals and water bodies by May 30 to enhance water conservation efforts. Additionally, he highlighted the need for alternative arrangements, such as water tankers, to prevent shortages. Farmers will be supported through the distribution of subsidized seeds, crop insurance, and access to loans under the Kisan Credit Card scheme. Healthcare facilities are to be bolstered to address heat-related illnesses, and awareness campaigns will be launched to educate the public. Adityanath also called for improved early weather warning systems and the deployment of trained personnel for disaster response, ensuring comprehensive preparedness for the upcoming Kharif season.
