The model code of conduct in Tamil Nadu, which was implemented on March 16, was lifted on Thursday, yet government departments remain largely inactive. Officials at the Secretariat and Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) are awaiting the formation of a new government, resulting in a lack of review meetings and discussions on significant projects. Deputy Mayor Mahesh Kumar noted that bureaucratic procedures would only resume with the new administration, and financial sanctions are also on hold. AIADMK councillor K Karthik expressed concerns about the uncertainty surrounding future projects and administrative reviews. As a result, many initiatives launched by the previous government, including the restoration of Bougainvillea Park in Anna Nagar, are stalled, leaving citizens frustrated with unfinished civic works and disrupted services.
