A second Bailey bridge on the Mussoorie-Dehradun road, inaugurated by cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi, aims to ease the severe traffic congestion that has plagued the area for the past seven months. The original bridge was washed away during a disaster on September 16 last year, leading to the construction of a temporary bridge that allowed only one-way traffic, causing long delays for travelers. Residents reported spending up to three hours in traffic during peak tourist times. The new bridge opened for small vehicles on Friday evening, with full traffic flow commencing Saturday. However, heavy vehicles will not be allowed on this bridge. Additionally, plans for a permanent bridge costing ₹12 crore (approximately $1.45 million USD) are underway, with construction expected to start soon. This development is anticipated to significantly improve travel times for both residents and tourists during the busy season.
