The Delhi government's Public Works Department (PWD) is set to begin construction on a 55-kilometre elevated Ring Road aimed at improving urban mobility and reducing traffic congestion. This ambitious project will unfold in six phases, starting with an 11.5-kilometre stretch from the Kashmere Gate interstate bus terminal (ISBT) to Ashram or the DND Flyway. The initial phase has been prioritized due to minimal roadblocks and land possession. AECOM, the consulting firm, will prepare a detailed project report (DPR) that includes traffic assessments, environmental studies, and engineering designs. The entire project will feature elevated corridors, redesigned intersections, and enhanced public transport integration. Experts emphasize the need for careful planning to avoid construction chaos and ensure the elevated structure effectively reduces travel time. PWD minister Parvesh Verma has assured that the government will maintain transparency and accountability throughout the execution of this project, which aims to create a world-class mobility system in Delhi.
