On Thursday morning, two college students, N Delhi Ganesh and A Dakshinamurthy, both 17 years old, tragically lost their lives in a transformer explosion near Sriperumbudur, Chennai. The incident occurred around 10 AM as they attempted to harvest ice apples from a palmyra tree after playing cricket. Using a wooden pole fitted with an iron sickle, they tried to retrieve fruits that had fallen onto high-tension transformer wires. The transformer exploded, resulting in a fire that engulfed the boys and threw them to the ground, causing severe burns. Villagers alerted emergency services, but the students were declared dead upon arrival at the Sriperumbudur government hospital. Police reported that the boys had borrowed the pole and did not consider the iron tip, which led to the electrocution. The bodies have been sent for postmortem, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
