Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced advancements in safety for the annual pilgrimage to Pandharpur, Maharashtra, stating that nearly 80% of the Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi Marg, spanning 234 km, has been completed at a cost of ₹7,625 crore (approximately $920 million USD). A dedicated 3.5-metre wide lane will ensure the safety of the lakhs of warkaris, or devotees, participating in the pilgrimage. Gadkari highlighted that the remaining sections of the route will be finished within the next four to six months. Additionally, the 130-km Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi Marg, with an investment of ₹4,416 crore (approximately $530 million USD), is also nearing completion. The minister emphasized environmental efforts, including the creation of 46 lakes and the planting of 40,000 trees along the route. New infrastructure projects, such as a 2-km flyover for Jejuri and the 48-km Tembhurni-Pandharpur section of NH-561A, have also been announced to improve traffic management and safety in the temple town.
