In a significant move for property owners in Bengaluru, the Greater Bengaluru Authority has announced a reduction in the conversion fee for B-khata properties to 2% from 5% of the guidance value. This decision is part of the Karnataka government's newly launched Bhu Guarantee scheme, which aims to benefit nearly 700,000 property owners currently listed under the B category. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar stated that this initiative is part of the Congress government's 'My Khata, My Right' campaign, designed to simplify property documentation through digitization. The government will also launch an 'E-khata Open House' campaign starting May 16, with special camps organized every Saturday for the next three months to assist residents with e-khata registrations and property regularization. However, there is no clarity on whether those who paid the earlier 5% fee will receive refunds. Additionally, the permissible limit for building violations has been increased from 5% to 15%, allowing more homeowners to qualify for regularization. The government also announced the distribution of 18,000 sites in the Shivarama Karanth Layout and plans to sell 1,900 newly constructed houses in Whitefield.
