The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) intends to ask the Karnataka State government for intervention to postpone civic body elections, originally slated for June, to September. This decision follows a meeting with Karnataka State Election Commissioner G.S. Sangreshi, who indicated the need to identify suitable election dates within a narrow window. GBA officials express concern that the timeline is insufficient due to an acute shortage of staff and ongoing responsibilities, including the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and preparations for the monsoon season. Tushar Giri Nath, Additional Chief Secretary of the Urban Development Department, confirmed the intention to seek a three-month extension through the SEC to ensure better election readiness. Additionally, the requirement for a 'triple test' for reservation, mandated by the Supreme Court, poses another challenge, as a dedicated commission must first gather data on backwardness and establish reservation quotas before elections can take place.
