Ludhiana, a city in Punjab, India, experienced widespread power outages following severe thunderstorms and rain on Wednesday evening. Key substations in Sarabha Nagar, Indira Park, Transport Nagar, and Phase 8 were shut down due to damage from the storms. Power was restored by around 11 PM, but some areas remained without electricity until midnight as repair crews worked to fix broken supply cables. The Chief Engineer of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), Jagdev Singh Hans, noted that the number of complaints nearly doubled, reaching 15,503 on Wednesday compared to 8,309 the previous day. He explained that thunderstorms often cause cable breakage, leading to significant disruptions that require time to resolve, especially when safety concerns necessitate waiting for calmer winds before repairs can commence.
