In the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on April 23, 2026, a staggering 3,352 candidates out of 4,032 lost their deposits, failing to achieve one-sixth of the votes in their respective constituencies. The constituency of Karur saw 76 out of 79 candidates forfeiting their deposits, while Perambur, Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar, and Kolathur also had significant losses. Among political parties, the AIADMK candidates lost deposits in 19 constituencies, and the BJP in five. The NTK party forfeited deposits in all 234 constituencies, while the Congress, CPI, CPI (M), DMDK, DMK, and VCK did not lose any deposits. Independent candidates were heavily impacted, with 2,208 out of 2,209 losing their deposits. The overall polling percentage was 86.03%, with 11.08% of postal votes rejected. In terms of gender representation, out of 108 winning candidates from the TVK party, only 13 were women, and the AIADMK had six women among its 47 candidates. Notably, no women won from the AMMK, BJP, CPI, DMK, or VCK.
