Vijay, the founder of the Tamil Nadu-based party Tamilaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK), faced disappointment as his swearing-in as Chief Minister was postponed due to insufficient support in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly. TVK secured 108 seats but needed at least 117 to form a government. Although Vijay had met with the Governor at Raj Bhavan to stake his claim, the political landscape shifted late Friday night. Initially, the Congress party, with five MLAs, and the Communist parties (CPI and CPI(M)), each with two MLAs, had pledged their support. However, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), another ally of the DMK, denied backing Vijay and confirmed its commitment to the DMK coalition. The VCK party, which also has two MLAs, delayed its decision, leaving Vijay's coalition short of the necessary numbers. Consequently, TVK supporters who gathered in anticipation of the swearing-in were left disheartened as the event could not take place.
