The transport department in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India, will soon establish a detention centre and dedicated holding areas for vehicles seized for illegal operations and overloading. This initiative aims to resolve the ongoing issue of enforcement officials struggling to find adequate parking space at police stations after roadside checks. Currently, officials often have to issue fines and release vehicles due to lack of space, leading to concerns about those vehicles being involved in accidents later on. Assistant Regional Transport Officer Pawan Kumar Yadav confirmed that a detention centre near Ahimamau is nearing completion and is expected to be operational within 15 to 20 days. This facility will have the capacity to hold more than 100 vehicles. Six locations have been identified for the holding areas, with two in Mohanlalganj and others in Ghaila and Faizabad Road areas of western Lucknow. The municipal corporation will develop four of the holding areas, while the transport department will handle the remaining two. This development is seen as a significant step towards improving enforcement efficiency and road safety in the city.
