In Gomti Nagar Extension, Uttar Pradesh, India, over 20 illegal temporary shacks have emerged within parks developed by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), raising serious concerns about encroachment on public spaces. Residents have observed this settlement grow rapidly over the past few weeks, with little action taken by authorities. While the LDA installed grills in some areas to deter encroachment, many parks remain neglected and inaccessible. Vikas Tiwari, a local resident, highlighted that several parks intended for public use are either occupied illegally or remain locked, despite their completion. One park near the 900-meter road at the 1090 intersection has been locked since its construction, with construction debris littering the walking paths. Additionally, residents have reported issues with malfunctioning streetlights, which they believe contribute to illegal activities such as unauthorized electricity connections. LDA chief engineer Manvendra Singh has acknowledged these complaints and stated that the authority will investigate and coordinate with relevant departments to address the situation, including plans to unlock the neglected park near the 1090 intersection.
