A tragic incident unfolded near Ramachandrapur Barrage in Odisha when a police constable, Soumyaranjan Swain, was allegedly beaten to death by locals after he and another man were accused of misbehaving with an injured woman following a road accident. The accident involved two young women from the Benupur area who were traveling on a scooter when they collided with another vehicle, sustaining serious injuries. Instead of assisting the injured women, two men, including Swain, reportedly attempted to misbehave with one of them, leading to outrage among passersby. Local residents intervened, resulting in a violent confrontation that left Swain dead and the other man, Om Prakash Mohanty, critically injured. Bhubaneswar Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh confirmed that two cases have been registered: one for attempted rape and misconduct, and another for murder. Four individuals have been arrested, and investigations are ongoing.
