The Punjab and Haryana High Court has ruled against the Miri Piri Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Charitable Trust, dismissing its petition that challenged the authority of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) to form its medical board. The Trust claimed independence, asserting that its assets do not qualify as 'gurdwara property' and thus fall outside HSGMC's jurisdiction. However, the HSGMC argued that the Haryana Sikh Gurdwaras (Management) Act, 2014, grants it the right to manage assets previously overseen by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) in Haryana. The court, led by Justice Jagmohan Bansal, noted that the Trust was established by the SGPC and that all trustees were appointed by it. The court emphasized that the Trust's assets are ultimately linked to the SGPC, as all properties would revert to Sri Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar if the Trust ceases operations. The Trust has been operating a 500-bed medical college and hospital in Shahbad since March 2006.
