Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, HD Kumaraswamy, revealed the proposal on May 12, highlighting that ₹123.26 crore will be allocated for 1,243 chargers specifically in Karnataka. The chargers will be installed at petrol pumps operated by state-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs) such as Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL). This initiative is part of a larger budget of ₹10,900 crore allocated for the PM E-Drive scheme, which also includes provisions for demand incentives for electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers, as well as funding for the deployment of electric buses. The expansion of EV charging infrastructure is expected to support a variety of electric vehicles, including cars, two-wheelers, three-wheelers, buses, and trucks, facilitating the transition to cleaner transportation across India.
