Chandigarh Police have successfully dismantled a gang involved in arms trafficking, arresting five individuals linked to the Pakistani gangster Shehzaad Bhatti. The operation commenced on April 18, when Sanju Kanchu, a resident of Maloya, was apprehended with a semi-automatic pistol and a live cartridge near the Sector 39 grain market. During questioning, Kanchu revealed that he obtained weapons from Anas Rayeen, who is currently imprisoned in Ambala for possessing approximately 2 kg of suspected RDX explosives. Following Kanchu's disclosures, Rayeen was brought to the police for further interrogation, where he admitted to selling weapons in the Chandigarh tricity area via social media connections. On May 1, police arrested Balwant, who attempted to evade capture in a vehicle, recovering additional firearms from him. Subsequent arrests included Ranjit from Burail village and Subhash from Zirakpur, both found with country-made pistols. The police's actions underscore the ongoing challenges posed by organized crime in the region.
