The Mumbai-Pune 'Missing Link' project, inaugurated on Maharashtra Day, May 1, aims to revolutionize travel between Mumbai and Pune by significantly reducing travel time and improving safety. This ₹6,695.37 crore ($805 million USD) project creates a new alignment that bypasses steep ghat curves, shortening the expressway distance from 19 kilometers to 13.3 kilometers, and cutting travel time by 20 to 25 minutes. The new six-lane section, which includes eight lanes in total, is designed to handle the expressway's full traffic load and features advanced infrastructure such as parallel tunnels and major bridges. The project is expected to save nearly ₹1 crore ($120,000 USD) in fuel costs daily, addressing chronic congestion and enhancing safety on one of India's busiest routes. With these improvements, the Missing Link is set to become a vital component of Maharashtra's transportation network.
