The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) of India has extradited Mohammad Salim Dola, a 59-year-old alleged international drug trafficker and close associate of fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim, from Turkey. This extradition is the first achievement of Operation Global-Hunt, a three-year initiative aimed at dismantling 100 drug networks run by Indian fugitives abroad, including in countries like Dubai and Canada. Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the breakthrough, emphasizing the government's commitment to combating drug syndicates. The operation specifically targets traffickers associated with fentanyl, cocaine, and heroin that are contributing to rising addiction and violence in India. Dola, who has been on the run for nearly a decade, was wanted by the Mumbai Police and Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for his involvement in significant drug trafficking operations. His extradition follows an Interpol Red Corner Notice issued against him in March 2024. The NCB's roadmap for this operation was developed in response to alarming increases in substance abuse, as discussed during a meeting of the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD). The campaign aims to establish a comprehensive strategy against drug abuse, with measurable targets and regular reviews to ensure accountability.
