Work on Underpass No. 5, the last underpass of the Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor in New Delhi, has resumed after a three-year delay due to clearance and design issues. The Public Works Department (PWD) announced that the box-pushing exercise has been completed, and construction is set to be finished by February 2024. The underpass, located near Bhairon Marg, is designed to enhance connectivity between Ring Road and Pragati Maidan. The revised construction methodology, which received in-principle approval from the Indian Railways, allows for a reduction in the underpass's dimensions, limiting it to two lanes for light motor vehicles. Previously, the plan required a 40-day halt to train operations, but the new approach minimizes disruptions. The project faced challenges due to its proximity to the Yamuna River and existing railway lines, necessitating careful planning and coordination with railway authorities. Ancillary work, including drainage systems and road integration, will proceed in phases over the coming months.
