In preparation for the upcoming prom on May 16, Ocean City High School in Ocean City, New Jersey, has introduced a DUI simulator to educate students about the risks of impaired and distracted driving. The program, which utilizes the One Simple Decision computer simulation, allows students to navigate a virtual town while experiencing the altered responses associated with intoxication. This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure student safety, especially as they make plans for prom. The simulator sessions were made possible through a collaboration with the John R. Elliott HERO Campaign, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, the Ocean City Police Department, and NJM Insurance. Bill Elliott, founder of the HERO Campaign, emphasized the importance of the simulator in illustrating the serious consequences of drinking and driving. The campaign, named in memory of Elliott's son who was killed by a drunk driver, promotes responsible driving through various outreach efforts, including the HERO Pledge, which has garnered over 100,000 commitments from individuals to be designated drivers. Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland expressed pride in participating in this life-saving initiative.
