Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) is undergoing a review of its faculty and school structure, prompted by directives from the board of regents. President Janet Morrison stated that this initiative aims to enhance efficiency and accountability amid significant financial challenges and a notable decrease in student enrollment, which has dropped by approximately 2,000 students since its peak in 2021. Morrison highlighted the university's proactive approach to navigate these issues, stating that the review will not impact current course offerings or programs. The review process, which has been ongoing for several months, is intended to provide MUN with a clearer direction for the future. Preliminary recommendations are expected to be submitted to the board of regents this fall, with further discussions anticipated in the new year. Morrison, who took on the presidency in April 2022, previously managed similar cost-saving measures at Sheridan College in Ontario and aims to focus on MUN's strengths in research and education.
