The Government First Grade College in Puttur, located in the Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, India, has launched its free admission campaign for the second consecutive year, aiming to support students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The initiative, which offers free seats to 100 students in BA, BCom, and BCA courses, has already attracted inquiries from various regions, including North Karnataka. Principal Prof. Subbappa Kaikamba reported that last year, 103 students enrolled under this scheme, with only four dropouts, benefiting from free education and midday meals provided by donors. The college has strengthened its ties with the community, evidenced by increased parental involvement and support during emergencies. However, connectivity issues remain a challenge, prompting the college to work with the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to improve bus schedules. The current campaign has confirmed 21 admissions so far, with a notable interest in the BCA program, and plans for placement support are anticipated as the second-year batch progresses.
