The Kalyana Karnataka region is grappling with a critical shortage of high school teachers, with 4,107 vacancies reported across seven districts. Of the 11,745 sanctioned posts, only 7,638 teachers are currently employed, leading to a significant gap in staffing. Devdurg in Raichur district is the most affected area, with over 62% of its posts unfilled. Other districts facing similar shortages include Manvi, Sandur, and Siruguppa. The reliance on guest teachers has raised concerns about the consistency of education quality. Krishna Ittangi, an educationist from Koppal, emphasized the need for the government to prioritize filling these vacancies and enhancing administrative structures in newly formed taluks. A committee led by Chhaya Deganvkar has recommended establishing Block Education Offices (BEOs) in 14 new taluks to improve educational oversight. However, a proposal to fund these new posts remains pending with the government, highlighting the ongoing challenges in meeting staffing norms in the region.
