The Delhi High Court has issued a directive prohibiting any activities, including commercial and religious, near the Yamuna Sur Ghat, located within Zone O of the Yamuna floodplains. Justice Jasmeet Singh emphasized the need for environmental protection in his April 30 order. The court directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to make alternative parking arrangements for visitors during auspicious occasions, ensuring these do not disturb the ecologically sensitive area. This ruling came in response to a petition filed by Suresh Kumar, who sought the restoration of a parking site near the Ghat. Kumar claimed that a memorandum of understanding had been executed for managing parking sites, but his tender for operating the site was cancelled by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in January 2025. The court noted that the cancellation was not challenged and granted Kumar the option to seek further legal remedies through a civil suit.
