On Monday, the Madras High Court in Chennai dismissed a public interest writ petition filed by M P Venkatesh, a voter from Perambur constituency, regarding alleged discrepancies in actor Vijay's election affidavit for the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections. The petition claimed that Vijay, who is also the founder of the Tamilaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK) party, declared a loan of ₹12.5 crore to his spouse, Sangeetha, amidst reports of a matrimonial dispute. This raised questions about the legitimacy of such transactions and the overall accuracy of his financial disclosures. The petitioner pointed out that while Vijay reported extensive loans, he simultaneously declared zero liabilities, suggesting a misleading financial profile. The court noted that the petition was unnecessary as it had already issued notice on a similar matter concerning Vijay's disclosures, reinforcing the need to maintain election integrity and transparency.
