K. Raghu Rama Krishna Raju (Deputy Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly) has formally requested the Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police to address the unauthorized use of loudspeakers in places of worship. In his letter, Raju highlighted the growing issue of unregulated loudspeaker usage, which he claims disrupts the peace and health of the public. He noted that while religious freedom is a fundamental right, it should not infringe upon citizens' right to a peaceful life. Citing the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, and directives from the Supreme Court, he pointed out that loudspeakers are permitted to be used only on limited occasions throughout the year. However, many institutions reportedly operate high-decibel sound systems daily, negatively impacting students, the elderly, and patients. Raju has taken steps to enforce these regulations in his constituency and urged the police to act against repeat offenders under various legal provisions, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Environment Protection Act. He called for immediate instructions to be issued to ensure compliance and restore order in residential areas.
