The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is gearing up to resume full-scale operations following a 70-day hiatus due to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in place for elections. This week, the GCC will hold its first formal review meeting to assess various civic projects that had been stalled. Approximately 70% of scheduled road projects were completed before the election period, leaving 30% unfinished, which will now be prioritized for completion ahead of the monsoon season. Additionally, the GCC plans to address civic violations that increased during the election, with fines imposed on offenders violating Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste regulations and illegal political banners. Contractors awaiting payments for completed works can expect settlements as the GCC anticipates financial stabilization in the coming months. New tenders for essential infrastructure will also be issued soon, following a significant increase in procurement activities, including 1,200 tenders published in February alone.
