According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data for 2024, Uttar Pradesh, India, has experienced a significant decline in major crime categories, particularly those against women. Dowry deaths saw a staggering 50.7% decrease, dropping from 2,122 cases in 2023 to 1,047 in 2024. Abduction cases also fell dramatically by 62.8%, from 14,272 to 5,306. The decline in rape cases was recorded at 8.7%, with 3,209 incidents reported this year. Additionally, murders of women decreased by 4.8%, while cases of outrage of modesty plunged by 53.3%. Notably, actions against molestation more than doubled, reflecting increased confidence among women in law enforcement. Despite a slight rise in domestic harassment cases, officials attribute this to a growing willingness to report incidents, indicating improved trust in the justice system. The overall crime rate under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita remained stable, with a total of 430,552 cognizable offences reported. The Director General of Police, Rajeev Krishna, emphasized that these trends highlight the stateβs ongoing commitment to law and order improvements through enhanced policing and community initiatives.
