According to the National Crime Records Bureau, Delhi recorded 2,905 suicides in 2024, marking it as the highest among 53 Indian cities. Bengaluru followed with 2,403 suicides, while Mumbai registered 1,406 cases. The data revealed that most victims in Delhi were married, with 1,616 married individuals accounting for 55.6% of all cases. Family-related issues were identified as the leading cause, contributing to 675 deaths, while marital problems and unemployment also played significant roles. The suicide rate in Delhi was noted at 13.2 per lakh population, whereas Bengaluru had a higher rate of 16.7 per lakh. Despite the high numbers, Delhi saw a decline in suicides compared to previous years, with 3,417 cases in 2022 and 3,131 in 2023. Additionally, the report highlighted concerning trends in crimes against women and children, with 7,827 cases reported in Delhi, including 1,058 rapes and 7,662 crimes against children. Property crimes and road accidents also posed significant issues, with 39,976 vehicle thefts reported in the city.
