The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has announced a tender for the procurement of a mobile laboratory van dedicated to real-time water quality assessment of the Yamuna River. This initiative follows the installation of 41 online continuous monitoring stations (OLMS) across the river and key drains, expected to be operational by May. The mobile lab will enhance monitoring capabilities, particularly in the 22-km stretch between Wazirabad and Okhla, known for its high pollution levels. It will facilitate water sample collection and analysis in areas lacking fixed OLMS, allowing for immediate response during contamination incidents. The mobile lab will also measure faecal coliform levels, a significant indicator of sewage presence. The DPCC's plan for the mobile lab was approved in December 2023, aiming to bolster routine surveillance and early detection of water quality issues.
