Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to prioritize large-scale plantation efforts, particularly along the newly inaugurated Ganga Expressway. The state aims to achieve 15% green cover by 2030 and 20% by 2047. As part of the Mega Plantation Campaign-2026, Uttar Pradesh plans to plant 35 crore saplings in a single day this year. Since 2009, the state has planted 2.4213 billion saplings, resulting in an increase of 3.38 lakh acres of forest and tree cover, raising the green cover to nearly 9.96%. The state has also recorded a carbon stock growth rate of 2.46%, surpassing the national average. Effective micro-planning and implementation at both rural and urban levels are deemed essential for success. Over 500 million saplings will be made available through 1,935 operational nurseries, with new nurseries established to support this initiative. Monitoring will be facilitated through digital platforms, including the 'Haritima' app and GIS mapping. Departments are required to submit detailed action plans by May 30 to ensure timely execution of these plantation activities.
