The Punjab and Haryana High Court has fined Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramandeep Singh ₹50,000 for failing to include the Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC) in his petition challenging its order. Singh had sought to contest a March 18, 2024, recommendation from the PSHRC for the registration of a criminal case against him and other police officials. The court noted that despite the commission's recommendations being challenged, it had not been made a party to the case. Singh had previously been granted an interim stay in April 2024, which remains in effect. The PSHRC's inquiry stemmed from a complaint alleging serious misconduct by Singh and others, including abduction and extortion. Although the commission found that Singh was not present during the alleged incident, it concluded he was involved as a conspirator. The court has allowed Singh to amend his petition by May 15, provided he pays the fine to the Poor Patients Welfare Fund of PGIMER, Chandigarh, within a week. Additionally, the court has requested the Punjab government to submit an affidavit on any decisions made regarding the PSHRC's recommendations.
