The Congress party's top leadership convened at the residence of party chief Mallikarjun Kharge to discuss the political landscape in Tamil Nadu following recent elections. Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerged as the largest party, winning 108 seats in the 234-member assembly, yet falling short of the 118-seat majority required to form a government. During the meeting, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal and Jairam Ramesh confirmed that TVK has sought Congress's support for government formation. Venugopal stated that the decision on whether to support TVK will be left to the Tamil Nadu Congress unit, taking into account the electoral verdict, which suggests a preference for a secular government without the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The TVK has already approached Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to claim the right to form a government and is currently negotiating for additional support. The Tamil Nadu Congress in-charge, Girish Chodankar, highlighted that the election results reflect a significant desire for change among voters, particularly among young women, and noted that discussions within the party are ongoing as they navigate the numbers needed for a stable government.
