In the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay, emerged as the single largest party, securing 108 seats but falling short of a simple majority in the 234-member House. In response, TVK has approached the Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), both part of the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, for support in forming a government. Following an online meeting, the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) announced its willingness to support TVK, contingent upon the condition that TVK does not seek assistance from the lone BJP MLA-designate or any other BJP allies. The Congress party itself won five seats in the elections, highlighting its reduced presence in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
