The Odisha government has announced an early summer vacation for all government, government-aided, and private schools, starting April 27, 2026, due to extreme heatwave conditions affecting the state. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized the need to protect students from temperatures that have reached as high as 44°C in several cities. This decision follows warnings from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) about ongoing heatwaves in six districts, including Khordha and Sambalpur, and yellow warnings issued for 17 districts. Prior to this announcement, the government had already revised school timings to morning shifts to ensure children's safety. Despite the early closure, scheduled examinations and other essential activities will proceed as planned.
