The Greater Noida authority has initiated plans to construct a second 300 tonne per day (TPD) compressed bio-gas plant at the Astauli landfill site, located approximately 20 km from Pari Chowk. This project, with a budget of ₹80 crore (roughly $9.6 million USD), aims to enhance waste management and mitigate the legacy waste issue in the rapidly urbanizing region. The plant will process both fresh and older waste through bio-mining and scientific disposal methods. The authority intends to issue a revised request for proposal (RFP) this week, with plans to finalize the agency within a month to expedite the project. The Astauli site, which spans 134 acres, currently serves as the primary landfill for Greater Noida, handling municipal solid waste from the area. As the urban population has grown significantly from around 100,000 in 2011 to 1.5 million by 2026, the authority is also developing an 800 TPD waste disposal plant and a 900 TPD waste-to-torrefied charcoal plant to further address waste processing and recycling efforts.
