Despite the confusion surrounding its release, the Tamil fantasy action drama managed to open strongly at the box office and attracted a solid audience response on its first day. The film’s theatrical performance has now sparked fresh online discussions, with fans eagerly waiting to know when and where the movie will stream on OTT after its big-screen run.Streaming details of KaruppuAccording to multiple reports by Filmibeat and TOI, Netflix has reportedly acquired the digital streaming rights for Karuppu. However, the makers and the streaming platform have not yet made an official announcement regarding the deal. Reports also suggest that the film may begin streaming online nearly four weeks after its theatrical release. Earlier, rumours had linked the movie with Amazon Prime Video, but the latest buzz points towards Netflix becoming the final OTT partner.The strong curiosity around the OTT release comes after the film’s dramatic theatrical rollout. Hours before its scheduled release, several morning shows were cancelled across Tamil Nadu due to reported financial disputes linked to unpaid dues. Initially, only early morning screenings were affected, but the uncertainty later spread to several other shows as well.The delay became a major talking point because the film had reportedly received special permission for 9 am screenings shortly before release. Fans had already begun booking tickets and expressing excitement online, making the sudden cancellations even more disappointing for audiences waiting to watch the film on the first day.Eventually, the issues were resolved, and the movie was released on May 15. Once it hit theatres, Karuppu managed to register an impressive opening at the box office despite the release-day troubles.Karuppu box office collectionAccording to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film earned around Rs 14.4 crore net in India on its opening day. The India gross collection stood at Rs 16.66 crore, while overseas markets added another Rs 4 crore. With this, the worldwide gross collection of the film reached Rs 20.66 crore on Day 1.The Tamil version led the film’s collections with around Rs 12 crore net, while the Telugu dubbed version contributed Rs 2.4 crore. Across 4,891 shows, the Tamil version recorded strong audience occupancy, especially during evening and night screenings.Reports suggest that the night shows performed particularly well, with occupancy in Tamil regions reportedly touching over 75 per cent. Chennai emerged as the strongest market for the film with 592 shows and occupancy crossing 70 per cent. Bengaluru, on the other hand, recorded comparatively lower occupancy despite hosting a large number of shows.Although Karuppu has opened on a positive note, the film’s Day 1 numbers remain lower than some of Suriya’s recent releases. His earlier films, Retro and Kanguva, had recorded bigger openings at the box office.At the same time, the film has still managed to outperform a few other Tamil releases this year and has generated strong curiosity among audiences due to its fantasy-action setup and star cast.
