A court in Nashik district, Maharashtra, is scheduled to announce its decision on May 2 regarding the anticipatory bail plea of Nida Khan, an employee of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) accused of sexual harassment and coercive religious conversion. The Additional Sessions Judge K G Joshi reserved the verdict after hearing arguments from both sides. The prosecution, represented by special public prosecutor Ajay Misar, opposed Khan's bail, emphasizing the need for custodial interrogation to explore potential financial connections and external funding sources related to the alleged coercive practices. They claim Khan was aware of the complainant's Scheduled Tribe status and was involved in pressuring employees to adopt Islamic practices. The Nashik police have formed teams to locate Khan, who is accused of targeting employees through a WhatsApp group. In response to the allegations, TCS has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards harassment. The case has drawn attention as Maharashtra recently enacted the Freedom of Religion Bill, 2026, which penalizes unlawful conversions. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is currently investigating nine cases related to these allegations, and eight individuals have already been arrested.
